Courteous and safe driving behaviors significantly reduces the risk of property damage and loss of life.
Remain committed to improving roadway safety by replacing bad driving habits with the following...
- Complying with applicable laws
- Observing rules of the road (speed limits, traffic signals, stop signs, etc.)
- Being patient and courteous toward other roadway users (cyclists, pedestrians, etc.)
- Using vehicle indicators when turning or changing lanes
- Following other vehicles at a safe distance
- Allowing other vehicles to merge and change lanes
- Avoiding aggressive driving
- Avoiding offensive behavior (incessant honking, obscene gestures, etc.)
- Refraining from erratic driving (excessive and aggressive lane changing, hard acceleration and braking, etc.)
- Parking legally and with regard for the needs of others

Most states have "Keep Right Laws" which require vehicles traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic to travel in the furthest right lane. Keeping right when driving slower than the flow of traffic will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and eliminate many of the aggravations that cause road rage. There is simply no good excuse to not practice lane courtesy rules.
There are two major factors to consider if you decide to engage with a motorist in such a negative manner.
- You will be breaking the law.
- You have no idea who is in the other vehicle or what reaction the individual may have in response to your aggression. Or if the individual may have a deadly weapon.
Driving is a Privilege, not a Right.
